Government Clarifies Anduriang Bridge Plan: River Normalization First, Permanent Bridge Slated for 2026

MardataNews.com – PADANG PARIAMAN – Responding to various reports and comments circulating on social media regarding the condition of the Anduriang Bridge, which collapsed due to a hydrometeorological disaster in November 2025, the Padang Pariaman Regency Government has issued a detailed explanation concerning the handling stages and reconstruction plans.

Since the incident occurred, the local government has consistently taken appropriate measures within its authority, while actively coordinating with both the provincial and central governments to accelerate the bridge’s reconstruction.

Initially, the plan was to build a temporary bridge to replace the makeshift raft crossing used by residents, in order to ensure safety and smooth mobility. However, during a meeting held on 5 May 2026 with representatives from the Public Works and Spatial Planning Office, village officials, community leaders, and local residents, the community requested that priority first be given to the normalization of the Batang Anai River. This was deemed necessary as the river’s condition directly affects residential areas and agricultural lands in the vicinity.

Following this request, the Padang Pariaman Regency Government, through the Public Works Office, has coordinated intensively with the Sumatra V River Basin Agency in Padang and the West Sumatra Provincial Water Resources and Construction Development Office. It should be noted that authority over river normalization rests with these two agencies, a project that also requires substantial funding and a relatively long implementation period. Thankfully, the river normalization work is currently being carried out by the West Sumatra Provincial Water Resources and Construction Development Office.

Once this work is completed, construction of the temporary bridge will commence immediately, utilizing existing structures that remain feasible for use. This temporary crossing will later accommodate two-wheeled vehicles and motorized rickshaws.

Meanwhile, the construction of a permanent bridge has received serious attention from the central government. It is scheduled to be built in 2026 by the West Sumatra National Road Implementation Agency, with an estimated budget of approximately IDR 42.5 billion. The bridge will feature a steel structure with a total length of 140 meters.

The regency government’s commitment is further demonstrated through active coordination by the Regent of Padang Pariaman with various relevant stakeholders. This includes inviting the Presidential Chief of Staff, the Deputy Minister of Public Works, the Deputy Chairperson of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives, and related officials to conduct a direct site review. Currently, the planning process is underway, and the regency government continues to complete all administrative requirements to expedite implementation.

The local government appeals to the public to understand the ongoing stages and to avoid being influenced by unconfirmed information. The support and prayers of the entire community are greatly appreciated, in the hope that the bridge construction can be completed promptly, restoring smooth transportation access for the residents of Anduriang and surrounding areas.
